Unit 33- Original Performance

Today we have been focusing on our developing piece for unit 33 and we’re given our group and a stimulus to choose from. My group consists of myself, Chloe, Rudi, Beth, Demi & Molly however it was only myself, Chloe and Rudi that have been present this lesson and therefore as a collective we’d chosen to work on stimulus 2- a phrase “Good Value”. We concluded on this decision after sharing out initial thoughts and findings for each of the stimuli and focused on which one would be more beneficial and evident of our skills and mutually we had a better understanding of ideas for this stimulus. I personally reacted to each of the stimuli quite strongly and to begin with was slightly torn 01/03 06/03

  During this lesson, we explored a few visual stimuli as a class collective and each individually came up with a few connections on how we would describe the image. Once we had focused on this for a little bit, we then decided what stimulus was the one we preferred to work one; without overthinking how we would incorporate it into a piece, purely based off our initiative and the one we had the most describing words for. From this we then ended up in our groups, mine consisting of myself, Robyn, Zack & Raven. Personally I found it really stimulating to devise a piece with people I don’t very often work with as this meant new ideas from each of us and help one another develop these ideas further. In our scene, we started with this fluidity or working in unison however we then switched the transition to cannon so we went done one after the other- linking back to the stimulus.   What was your initial response to the stimulus and why? My initial response to the stimulus was this idea of a feeling of isolation, which was purely based off the visuals in the image. This stimulus was a photo of a man sitting alone in a chair with nothing but mess and chaos behind him. In front of him however, was a faint cityscape directly in his view; despite the edge of a cliff or something as to where he's sitting. 'Eye of the storm' was an instant thought that came to mind. Due to all of the disarray behind him, it was like this person had already been through their 'storm' and that perhaps it's yet to fully come to an end however there is a clear horizon in the distance. I think my thoughts sustained this negative atmosphere in the image because of how gloomy the picture in itself was with a lack such lack of colour and despite the landscape in the view there is no other form of light or hope in the image.  What were the key stages in developing your ...

  State clearly and discuss in detail the practitioners that influenced you and why?   Our work was heavily influenced by Stanisvlaski because we really wanted to incorporate the realism in the context behind the piece as we were illustrating a true story.  What practical performance skills you and your group can apply to the performance piece. – give examples      What was the  content  of the piece,  theme  and  intention?  Explain in detail those three things.    

What is your theme and why did you choose it? The group consists of myself, Molly, Kayleigh, Ella and Demi. We based our decision on what we thought as a collective, would have been the most interesting topic for us to explore and research. This lead us to choosing ethical as our performance approach; our other options being social, cultural and historical. We also took into consideration that an ethical approach is thoroughly based off your own personal beliefs and perspectives, which could lead to controversy and discussion within the audience alongside reflection if we successfully educate our audience. This also means the performance can be created in a variety of art forms. What is your topic and why was this chosen?
